Who is She?

Objective

To create a print ready magazine spread that showcases the subject in a style that compliments them and their brand.

Process

After researching the person for this magazine spread, I developed a style that would compliment who they are and their brand. As the subject is known for bullet journaling, I used that to provide layout direction for the spread. There is a dotted grid background across the spread to imitate the grids within the common bullet journal. Existing images were modified in Photoshop to better fit the layout as well as be the correct resolution for print. Images of my own were then added to further the visual design of the spread.

Byul

Objective

To create a print ready twelve page magazine of a topic of my choosing.

Process

Using my various layout, typography and Photoshop skills a twelve page magazine with three full page advertisements was created on a topic of my choosing. I wanted a handmade friendly vibe to the magazine therefore, I leaned towards producing hand drawn fonts and elements like paint strokes and cut-out photos. Even though this was meant to be a summer edition, I decided against a typical “hot summer” theme, I went with a cooler refreshing concept.

New Yorker

Objective

To create illustrations based on photographic textures that would compliment a magazine article.

Process

An article and multiple photos of various textures were collected to start this project. Once these were established concepts were created based on the article. After a concept was chosen I used Illustrator to create the basic vector shapes, then applied the photo textures in photoshop. A combination of various effects in Photoshop were used to achieve the final resulting image. A splattered watercolour texture was used as the background to simulate an organic chaotic atmosphere - resembling something one might see in a microscope. By illustrating the human figure larger than the space within the silhouette of the house, it emphasizes the feeling of being trapped - the article’s main topic.

SwimScapes

Objective

To create an informative three-fold brochure for a swimming pool company to advertise their services.

Process

After creating the company logo a colour palette and overall theme was developed. Being a swimming pool company, soft playful waves were a big influence on the design as opposed to stronger waves that would be more reminiscent of the ocean. Rounded organic shapes were used to emphasize the water element, while photos were designed in Photoshop to mimic ripples in water. To break up all of the blue as well as emphasize important information, a contrasting coral colour was used along with some droplet shapes to continue the playful water concepts throughout the brochure.

Jack Skellington

Objective

Create a vector illustration of a toy, using gradient meshes. Then using that illustration in an infographic to showcase its features and benefits.

Process

Referencing my own photography, I used gradient meshes in Illustrator to recreate the Jack Skellington figurine. Once the illustration of the toy was complete I created a complimentary background for the toy and the infographic. Then using Illustrator’s graphing features, graphs were created in colours found in the Disney Infinity logo and placed on the bottom of the page. By doing this and having the logo at the top your eye is lead throughout the page following the cohesive colour palette. Placing Jack to the left provided visual direction to the test on the right.

Motorcycle Promo

Objective

To re-brand the motor vehicle and driver to promote a corresponding racing event.

Process

This Photoshop project began with a heavily sponsored motor vehicle that I edited to remove/replace its existing logos. Then backgrounds were created using a combination of sourced images and various Photoshop effects. Once a background was chosen it was further developed to work for both a horizontal and vertical layout. Then the motor vehicle and background were combined along with the necessary body copy to complete the final infield advertisement banners.

StagTown

Objective

Use a collection of photos to photo bash a poster for a movie of an existing plot line.

Process

This poster is for a movie based on Stagtown by Punko on Webtoon. Set in the modern day in an old town the story has a combination of contemporary elements that are intertwined with vintage ones. With this on top of being a horror story there were many elements that do not exist in the real world that I felt I could effectively create in Photoshop, such as the surveillance camera spiders. To create a feeling of something being off, instead of making the poster feel old or vintage with a typical sepia toned distressed look I went with a cooler overall tone to offset the vintage elements within the poster.

Capt. Saicin

Objective

To create an unique eye-catching logo and packaging for a BBQ sauce company.

Process

After coming up with the company name of “Capt. Saicin” I was inspired to do a military influenced design to compliment the name of “Captain”. Then after finding different BBQ sauce flavours more characters were created to correspond with their names while complimenting the mascot of the company. Once these elements were finalized I worked on creating a layout for the jar labels and outside box, adhering to the bilingual food labeling rules set in Canada. Using a single colour palette throughout the three designs ensured that the overall branding was cohesive.

Paint Pen

Objective

Create an a two-page catalogue of products with prices for a company I create.

Process

Once deciding on creating a catalogue for an art store of my own creation, photos of products to be presented in the piece were taken by myself. Once these photos were taken they were cleaned up and removed of their backgrounds in Photoshop. Being an art store I chose to create the piece as playful and colourful as possible. Using splashes of paint in places of emphasis to tie in the store name and the products presented. The typography was chosen to look like it was written by the pens being presented once again tying back to the name “Paint Pen”.

Innovation Village

Objective

To create five animating icons that represent the different aspects of the Innovation Village at Fanshawe College.

Process

I researched aspects of the innovation village to see what would be the best way to approach this creative project. After this research was done, sketches of the five icons were completed on one page to maintain visual consistency. The icons were then drawn in Illustrator and the same coloured background was applied further tying them together. Once completed in Illustrator they were taken into After Effects to be animated. Using a combination of techniques such as scale, position, rotation, and opacity the final animations were brought to life.
